Quit your day job

Take a moment. Reflect. Think about your current situation. Are you happy? Are you making progress with your goals? If you answered no to either of those questions, its time for you to quit. Move on!

Right now you're thinking this guy is crazy! Quit my job. What am I going to do? How am I going to pay my bills? Stop making these your focal point. You're scared to leave your job because you've got the wrong mindset. Believe me I went through the same thing. Conquer your fears though. Either you need start working for yourself or find a company to work for that makes you happy! Unhappiness leads to complacency. Complacency leads to failure.

After I quit my first job in October of 2016, Marie and I moved to Denver, Colorado. For the past 5 years I had been working for people who were making business more complicated, in my mind, than it needed to be. Hell, I even had a boss who told me that he was just as driven as I was when hired for his first job in the corporate world. After several years though he realized that big business was run this way, slow, with the inability to make changes quickly. Personally I don't 100% agree with that statement but the point is he sacrificed his goals for a paycheck! Which implied that he wasn't truly happy. So I moved on not longer after that. No way was I going to sacrifice my happiness.

When you work in an environment that doesn't make you happy or align with your personal goals, a red flag should go up. You're in the wrong place. Get out and move on. I did. And immediately took another marketing manager position in Denver. This time it only lasted 6 months before I quit. Again the company didn't make me happy or allow me to stay on track with my personal goals. Everyday was miserable. Going into the office was hard. Showing up made me angry. I wanted to walk away. And I did.

The point I'm making here is when you're not happy with your current job, move on! Complacency is the last thing you want. Imagine if you're unhappy now and continue to work at the same job for 10 more years, 20 more years or even 40 more years. Is that what you want? To be unhappy everyday. To show up for a paycheck.

Live your life on the edge. Take big risks. Sometime those risks will pay off and sometimes they won't. Michael Jordan said "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Yes this quote is overused but goddamn it's on point! I want you to be happy. If you're unhappy right now you've got an opportunity to change your state of mind, you just need to take it.

I will continue to stop doing things that don't make me happy. You only get one life. Live it. Engage in activities that make you happy. Listen to what you body is telling you. Unhappiness may mean you need to quit your day job!
